Rakhi Pournami celebrations were held grandly at Amma Nanna Anadha Ashramam, where around 500 orphaned and destitute people who have no one to call their own are cared for with love and affection. The ashram stands as a family and a source of support for those in need. The founder of the ashram, Smt. Gattu Sravani Shankar, received rakhis from the women living at the ashram and spent time with them affectionately.

On August 28, along with Rakhi Pournami and the third Friday of the holy Shravana month, special pooja programmes were conducted at the ashram. An idol of Goddess Lakshmi was installed and special poojas and aarti were performed with devotion. The celebrations reflected the spirit of Rakhi Pournami Celebrations at Anadha Ashramam.

The women living at the ashram were also given an opportunity to participate in the Lakshmi Pooja. Smt. Gattu Sravani Shankar encouraged them to offer aarti to Goddess Lakshmi. Later, the women came forward one by one to seek the blessings of the Goddess.

After the pooja, Sravani Shankar affectionately greeted the women, applied turmeric to their feet, placed kumkum on their foreheads, tied rakhis on their wrists and offered them sweets. The women were filled with happiness as they experienced the love and affection of someone who treats them like her own family. The celebration continued with the men of the ashram as well. They were blessed with aarti, had kumkum placed on their foreheads and were tied rakhis with warm wishes on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The ashram staff also joined the celebrations by tying rakhis to the destitute people who have been living at the ashram for several years.

Rakhi Pournami is a festival that brings families together through love, affection and the bond of protection. However, at Amma Nanna Anadha Ashramam, Choutuppal, the festival was celebrated with the special intention of ensuring that those who have no family of their own could also experience the happiness and warmth of a family celebration.
