We find it difficult to endure even a minor headache; it is hard to imagine the plight of those suffering from mental distress who wander the streets like madmen. In Choutuppal, the Amma Nanna Orphanage takes in such destitute, mentally ill individuals-who have nowhere else to turn-provides them with medical treatment, and helps them return to a normal life.
Often, due to a lack of awareness among their families, individuals suffering from mental health issues leave home and end up on the streets, living on footpaths or in bus stations. Lacking proper clothing and regular meals, they suffer from the pangs of hunger, often resorting to eating scraps found in trash heaps, which leads to illness and a life mired in disease. Who will care for them? Who will restore their well-being? Are their lives destined to end in such misery?
The Amma Nanna Orphanage was established by society to address the needs of these mentally challenged individuals. Located in Choutuppal, in the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, this shelter was founded in 2010 by Sri Shankara Guruji. Starting with just one person, the orphanage-supported by generous donors-has since helped hundreds of destitute individuals find a new lease on life.
Currently, more than 500 mentally challenged people are sheltered here, with a dedicated space provided for them on the first floor of the permanent residential building. The facility includes a medical unit staffed by experienced doctors and nurses who provide dedicated healthcare services. Through a combination of proper nutrition and continuous Medical care, many destitute individuals are recovering and regaining full health. Furthermore, as their mental state improves, some are able to recall their past and provide details about their identities, allowing them to be reunited with their families.
Kind-hearted donors, even a small contribution from you can go a long way in providing critical Orphanage Medical Support to those in need and bringing light back into their lives. The 'Amma Nanna' (Mother & Father) Orphanage/Shelter invites you to become a part of this noble mission by donating essential medical supplies-such as medicines, saline bottles, cotton, and ointments-for the shelter's medical unit.
