Light Up Lives Today
Introduction
Guru Purnima is a sacred day that holds deep spiritual significance in Indian tradition. It is a time to pause, reflect, and offer gratitude to the Gurus — the enlightened souls who remove ignorance and show us the path to truth and righteousness. The word "Guru" means one who dispels darkness, and this day is a celebration of that divine guidance.
For many, a Guru could be a spiritual master, a teacher, or even a parent — anyone who uplifts our lives with wisdom, values, and unconditional support.
The origins of Guru Purnima go back thousands of years. According to ancient texts:
It marks the birth anniversary of Maharishi Veda Vyasa, the sage who compiled the Vedas and authored the Mahabharata. Hence, it is also known as Vyasa Purnima.
On this day, Lord Shiva became the first Guru (Adi Guru) and began imparting knowledge to the Saptarishis, the seven sages.
In the Buddhist tradition, Guru Purnima is the day when Lord Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment at Sarnath.
These events symbolize the transmission of eternal knowledge and the beginning of spiritual awakening.

How We Celebrate Guru Purnima
At Amma nanna Anada Asrhramam Guru Purnima is observed with devotion and service. While people across India perform Guru Puja, visit ashrams, and seek blessings, we believe the best way to honour our Gurus is by serving those in need.
On this day, we:
Perform special Pujas and rituals dedicated to Guru and Lord Shiva.
Organize Annadanam Seva (free meal donation) for over 600 mentally challenged and homeless individuals at our Ashram.
Distribute prasad, clothing, and essential items to the underprivileged.
Encourage devotees to participate in acts of compassion and charity as a true offering to their Guru.
Guru Purnima is not just a spiritual festival — it's a call to awaken the Guru within, to live with wisdom, humility, and kindness. Whether through a prayer, a donation, or a kind word, let this day be your tribute to the light that guides your soul.
