How Many People Did You Ignore Today

Your Gift Feed a orphan

Walk down any busy road in your city, and you’ll see them — not always clearly, not always loudly. A man curled beside a garbage bin. A woman mumbling to herself, barefoot on burning pavement. A boy staring at the sky, lost not just in thought but in time itself.

And yet... we walk past.

Not out of cruelty. Not always. Sometimes it’s fear. Sometimes it’s helplessness. Most times, it’s just habit.

We’re so used to seeing “those people” — the ones with torn clothes, unwashed faces, erratic speech, or blank stares — that we’ve trained our eyes to look through them instead of at them.

But here’s a question:

They Are Not Garbage

Some of the people we pass on footpaths or roadside corners are mentally ill, abandoned by their families or institutions that once promised care.
Some are orphans, not just without parents but without papers, names, or memories.
Some were abused, some simply forgotten. But all are human.

And that’s where Amma Nanna Anada Ashramam steps in — not as a savior, but as a witness, a listener, a family.

We don’t ask them for ID.
We don’t ask them for their past.
We offer them what they’ve been denied for years: Food, Shelter, Dignity, and Unconditional Acceptance.

A Silent Crisis

India has millions of mentally disabled individuals living without care or supervision. Most don’t receive medical attention, counseling, or even three meals a day.
They are often beaten, shunned, or mocked. Left to sleep next to open drains, eating scraps, wearing plastic bags for clothing.

We ask the system: “Why aren’t you doing anything?”
We ask God: “Why do such people suffer?”
But we rarely ask ourselves:
"What have I done today for someone I ignored yesterday?"

What Amma Nanna Does

Every day, Amma Nanna Anada Ashramam:

  • Feeds 600+ mentally challenged and homeless individuals

  • Rescues people from roadsides, bus stations, and slums

  • Offers shelter, medication, clothing, and a quiet place to exist without fear

  • Runs the Sri Punyalingeswara Swamy Temple, where donations directly support these efforts

We don’t run viral campaigns.
We don’t chase awards.
We chase humanity.

Don’t Just Feel Bad — Feel Responsible

You don’t have to run an ashram.
You don’t have to save hundreds.

But here’s what you can do:

  • Notice one person you’d usually ignore. Look into their eyes. See them.

  • Sponsor one meal — just ₹30 can give someone a full plate of food.

  • Volunteer a weekend — give your time, not just your money.

  • Celebrate your birthday or festival by feeding those who have no family.

Because someday, someone you love might be the one lying on that footpath.
Wouldn’t you want someone to stop?
